Pictured in fighting mode on the cover of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos, volume 2, are Street Fighter's hurricane-kicking Ken Masters and The King of Fighters' crime boss Geese Howard, who was previously killed by Terry Bogard. But in the next world, it doesn't matter if you're dead.
Fighters are gathering together in the afterlife, many of them thanks to Street Fighter's evil Shadaloo bossman M. Bison, who with a single satellite blast has removed most life on the planet. But why are there only fighters present? No matter, they are too happy and busy trying to kill each other off again.
Players of SNK's The King of Fighters and Capcom's Street Fighter fighting game series or the SVC Chaos Xbox game will enjoy this color comic the most because of familiarity with the characters and their signature attacks. Fortunately for the non-player, sufficient background information is provided so there can be some understanding of the fighters' personalities and motivations.
A standout full-page panel on page 23 captures the evil gleam of mischief in the eyes of SNK's Samurai Shodown swordsman Genjuro Kibagami as he glares down at his first opponent, KOF's Iori Yagami of the purple flame attack.
Also worthy of note is the two-page layout on pages 94-95 of the fight between Ken Masters and Geese Howard. The starting vertical half-page panel is the magnificent BOOM of Ken's flaming Shoryuken or Rising Dragon Punch. The final full-page panel is Ken unleashing a series of crisp Swift Gale Thunder Kicks, the Shippu Jinraikyaku, against a defensive Geese.
Pretty ludicrous is the unexpected interruption of their battle by a stupid-looking, tentacled green Martian. Is it that important to the storyline?
Over twenty-five fighters will battle each other in SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos for the final prize announced by KOF's Princess Athena of the red bikini in the role of Guardian of Heaven. But the fanged Guardian of Hell, Capcom gargoyle Red Arremer, is running interference unbeknownst to her.
