The King of Fighters: Maximum Impact -- Maniax comic is based on a related fighting game. While the game and comic uses KOF characters, they are set in an alternate universe outside the main King of Fighters series.

In Battle 1, a tattooed warrior returns home to a hard-hearted U.S. city known as South Town. But he's not the only fighter who has come here. Kyo Kusanagi has arrived as well with an unwanted companion, the cutesy Mignon. Mignon acts terribly naive, but she might have a hidden purpose for following Kyo.

Kyo is immediately challenged by a large group of heavily armed thugs, the Mephistopheles Gang, whose strings are pulled by someone named Duke. After that confrontation, there's another max-muscle guy who wants to take on Kyo, making for the coolest, most passionate fight scenes in the comic. Gotta love those jeans-splitting high kicks!

Not much to fault, except in some panels, the font was thin and red, which blended in with the color graphic, making the text difficult to read. Proofreading could also be better.

There's eye candy for the guys (including the front and back covers featuring babe fighter Mai Shiranui) and lots of lean hard bodies for the gals. It helps to be familiar with KOF characters, but it's not really necessary for your enjoyment of this comic.
